COLT 1911..............?

I am thought about buying a Colt 1911 and i am wondering if anyone has any advice on what model i should get. And i am wondering how valuable 45 ammo is compared to 9 mils and 40s. i have heard a few people say 45 ammo is cheaper because it is more plain. that true?

9mm is cheaper.
45 ammo is unyielding to find right now.

That said- ?? why a 1911?? Do you just "like" that mode of gun?
