Purple Pride revived: Kahoks basketball is back with a vengeance

But the previous is being pushed aside this season. The Kahoks are back with a vengeance, creating new storylines and rip-roaring a younger fan base whose connections to yesteryear are fuzzy at best.
And not only that. Many of the self-proclaimed "die-hards" from the 1970s and 1980s have returned after being no-shows for the last decade or more as the Kahoks struggled to find terms against superior talent.
Make no mistake, Purple Pride has been reborn. It's again kosher to be a Kahok.
Storming to the top
Collinsville, guided by third-year mentor Darin Lee, opened the season with guarded optimism. Four starters returned from a band that last year was 15-13 overall and 6-8 in the SWC.
But a stingy defense and a spread-the-plenitude offense have the Kahoks (19-3, 7-1) perched atop the SWC standings with six games left over. They moved into sole possession of first place Saturday with a 51-42 success at East St. Louis.
Collinsville was ranked No. 6 in the state's latest Discernment 4A poll, and it certainly won't fall when the new rankings are released this week.
