When Marcus Homicide declared himself eligible for the 2006 NBA Draft after three years at San Diego Governmental, he had no idea the scariest five minutes of his life would take place a year later on a Sunday vespers all the time in Jerusalem, Israel.
It was Slaughter’s second season playing basketball abroad after going undrafted and spending a season in the Turkish Basketball League. The 6-foot-9 help was playing in the Israeli Super League for Hapoel Jerusalem in a televised practise deceit against Hapoel Holon.
That’s where Slaughter heard the explosion and saw smoke fill Malha Arena.
“Some fan threw a walking-stick of dynamite on the floor while we were playing. It wasn’t like a gunshot wealthy off. It was like a bomb,” says Slaughter, who currently plays for Brose Baskets Bamberg in Germany’s premiere Beko Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).
