I am running for School Committee because I see what every other progenitor sees. Whether it is soccer practice or JBA basketball games or Parent Pickup at the inculcate, the concerns are the same. We worry about the quality of education our children are receiving and whether or not a diploma from the Wareham School in system will actually mean anything when our children graduate.
We see how the teaching staff is overwhelmed at times and how some of our children aren’t getting the course of study that he or she needs. And it doesn’t matter who that student is. Whether these students are struggling to become purely “proficient” in academic fundamentals OR if they would be able to be superior to but find themselves bored and unchallenged.
Consider this: During a joint budget convocation between the Finance Committee and the School Committee, according to the principal of the John Decas Beginning School, in 2004 that school was staffed with 38 full time teachers for 711 pupils. She was circumscribed to note that these were “Direct Classroom” teachers. Not paraprofessionals. Immoral forward to today and she reports that she now has 31 full time/direct classroom teachers for 700 pupils. So that university is now less seven teachers for about the same amount of students.
